Hello there!!

I'm Robert from Spain, and this is my first message for this forum...

I've buyed a 1.6 td caravelle gl (vanagon), in spain with new engine.

The last owner broke the engine at 400.000 Kmts...

And now I'm using this van....from last mounth....

Last weekend I've taked a little trip of 1500 kilometers (+/- 900 miles), with 9 person and heavy charge...

wooaahhoo! a good test for my vanagon 1.6 TD, ....

Vannagon respond sooo good for this trip... but I've got two questions about that...

- What's the maxium speed of a vanagon 1.6 Td, fully of person and charge?? (my vanagon 145 /km/h) - Is it good for this engine, to have this speed for long time (2 or 3 hour)???? ;-D (but, the temp engine it was in the midle of the oil temperature gauge....)

sorry for my poor english. And pleased to meet to all the people of this mail list. thanks a lot.

<<the mounts had to be about 1-1/2" farther back on the carriers.>>

When using an adapter plate in a Syncro or automatic Vanagon for an inline -four, and the Diesel hardware, if they are available use the '83 Diesel Vanagon side bars instead of the '82 bars. The mounts are about 2" farther back where you need them, and you won't have to cut and weld. I learned this from another local conversionist who put a inline -four into a Vanagon with auto trans, and bought a pair of the later bars from me.
