I can't contribute much to this but the Ignition modules from several VW models fit Vanagons. Lots of Lug Nuts, Lots of tie rod ends, CV joints and boots etc. I'm not very knowlegable about the "parts also fit" but you can always just go on a scavenger hunt with known to be good Vanagon numbers and check out other Audi and VW products. Sounds like a Saturday in the wrecking yard might pay off if you find lots of VWs there.
