Blake,

The OEM wire for Vanagons is a metallic stranded wire. The spark plug wire your buying is likely a carbon core type. I don't know how many vans are using an after market spark plug wire set, but I'd bet a good many, and they are all of the higher resistance type. While your at it check and see if your other plug wires are metal conductors. The OEM has the resister built into the spark plug boot, 5000 ohms. and I believe a small amount in the cap, 1000 ohms.

I've written an article on how to rebuild your OEM plug wires for cheap, just check the archives under my name.

Sincerely,

Mark Keller 91 Carat

Hi Everyone,

I was checking the resitance on the wire that goes from the coil to the distributor cap. Mine was 11,500 ohms. The Bently Manual says they should be about 2000 ohms. Then I went and bought a new wire set and the new one is 13,000 ohms. I have an 84 1.9L digijet fuel system. Does anyone know what is going on here?
