Which dipstick is this? Are you using the dipstick opening next to the oil filter flange or are you using a 50 degree conversion and using the one that goes into the pan? If it is the 50 degree pan then it is just a cork gasket that you have to replace. If it is a 15 degree or 50 degree conversion with the dipstick going into the block - it is a compression fit - 15 degree works well if you use the original tube - if you removed a 15 degree tube for a 50 degree tube you'll find the compression fitting is rather lame and it leaks - not too much you can really do about that = sort of the round peg in the square hole issue. My 50 degree swap with the dipstick here always seeped oil a little. If it isn't leaking around the base of the metal type but rather where the dipstick goes in I would suggest that you have a crank case vent issue that needed to be fix before the motor blows a seal. Can anyone point me to a Rabbit/Golf/Scirroco list with archives? I've an irritating oil leak where the ( unused) dipstick goes into the block of my 1800 jetta motor. ( Please don't tell me I have to pull the motor apart to fix it!) TIA Bill M. '82 Jetta powered GL |
