Loren said "...and not trying to top it off..." Thanks for the advice, but I DON'T try to top it off. If you are holding the handle, and the gas is flowing, when the auto-shutoff trips it is too late. You hear the click and then you better jump back or you get wet shoes (or worse, sandals). I never try to top off my tank, that is part of my system for checking the MPG. If I hear the gas start to bubble up, I cut off the flow. But a gas station isn't always quiet enough to do that. I do watch how many miles I go, and try to calculate how much gas to put in before I have to watch out. I just get so jealous when other folks stick the hose in their car, click it on, and go wash their windshields! If I did that, it would be a mess, if not a fire hazard.
