The direction of twist doesn't matter in this case. You would be trying to position the tabs on the back of the nozzle so they will come through a slightly larger hole. The hole is shaped like a cross, with two opposing arms of the cross a bit longer than the other two. When you twist the nozzle 90 degrees, its holding tabs will line up with the longer of the two arms on the cross-shaped hole. It still takes quite a bit of pulling to get it out, and this ruins the nozzle. Be sure to have a replacement before removing one.
