You can just mark your tie rods (paint) and unscrew the tie rod ends leaving the connecting rod loose. Slip your new boot over. Also a good idea to count the rotations and make a note. Otherwise you'll be in need of front end alignment which takes the savings out of doing it yourself. It is best to consider working with the steering rack and getting some lubrication back into the rack while you've got the boots off.
