Your glove box might be warped ......... mine is. I adjusted the top latch and it stays closed but still hangs out on the right side 1/2". I always close my sliding door by closing the door almost all the way and then I press on the back edge of the door to snap it completely closed. This also saves your sliding door handle from all that force. It does sound like the read latch isn't snapping into place so investigate that first. There is a release cable between the front and rear latches on the door, its adjustable when you remove your door panel.
