I know that I am often one of the people trying to get in the last word on a subject but I wanted to get this statement in to keep it with this link in the archives. Engine balancing is something that is done to give longer engine life. The function of balancing an engine does not give your engine super racer qualities. It is simply performed to extend engine life of engine bearings and reduce minute vibration in the engine under normal operating conditions and the routine RPM ranges that your engine was designed to operate. If you are misled by racers, rebuilders or anybody else that balancing allows you to routinely run your engine harder and at higher RPMs you are still risking your engine anytime you exceed the normal RPM ranges for your engine. You can ask yourself these questions: Is my oil pump designed to provide the additional lubrication to run at higher RPMs? Are my bearings and crank properly fitted to get enough lubrication to run higher RPMs? Are my rings fitted to run at the higher RPMs? Are my cylinder walls getting enough lubrication at higher RPMs? Have I got a camshaft that will operate properly at higher RPMs? Are my valve springs designed to run at higher RPMs? Do I have enough engine cooling to run my engine at higher RPMs? Is my engine oil temperature staying in normal ranges at higher RPMs? If you treat your engine like a high performance engine simply because you have it balanced and a mild camshaft you are going to shorten your engine life. Balancing builds a better engine, that is all.
