I thought about the other hoses and did a visual and "squeeze the charmin".
All the other hoses seem healthy and firm.   Even the same type of hose from
the expansion bottle to the filler bottle seems in good shape.
This van spent the first 12 years of its life in a garage and did 40 k miles
in that time.
Theres no substitute for caution though.
