Fellow Listees,
The response to my free offer has been less than overwelming. One FL listee
was kind enough to send me some lug bolts, but no one has yet claimed the
parts van.
Please reconsider a MN trip, or else a useful van will end up going to that
big junkpile in the sky.

Subject: FREE: 87 Vanagon GL (parts vehicle)
Here in MN, winter is fast approaching, and my garage space must be returned
to it's rightful owner, my patient and loving wife.
Therefore, my parts van is available to anyone who is willing to come and
claim it. It is a 1987 Vanagon GL, 4 speed, medium blue, with blue velour
interior.
This van is missing the following major components: engine, transmission,
ecu, windshield, original front seats, instrument cluster, front heater box,
bumpers, grills, headlights, a/c, and power steering rack. This list is not
guaranteed to be exhaustive, but it is pretty darn accurate. (Hey, what do
you expect at this price?)
On the positive side, all 4 doors are in good shape, with no rust or dents.
The interior panels and headliner are fine, except the sliding door panel,
which has the typical damage at the rear. The center seat and rear seat/bed
are fine. All locks, glass (except the windshield), gearshift/linkage, and
wiring harness are intact.
There is some substantial rust on the bottom of the side body panels,
especially in the wheelwell areas.
It has four wheels and tires, so it is towable, although the lack of a
steering rack will need to be resolved.
If you are still having a hard time visualizing this van, just think of a
brand new 87 GL, add 15 years, and subtract the missing components.
The van is secure (who would want to steal it?) and dry inside my garage in
Minneapolis. It really has to depart within about 2 weeks, so plan your MN
vacation quickly. The first respondent who makes a valid claim for it will
be the happy owner of this wonderful parts treasure trove (or outdoor
storage unit, depending upon your perspective).
It really is free, but since I need 10 front lug bolts for standard steel
wheels, as my son's 88 Wolfsburg will be without the OE alloy wheels for the
duration of the impending snow season, special dispensation may be given to
any respondent who can supply the desired 10 lug bolts.
If you just can't wait until I check my e-mail, or if you believe that Tom
Edison is more reliable than Bill Gates, you can call me this weekend at
(612) 237-6663.
