Dave:

I have ripping my hair out over this problem for 6 months...mine is a 2.1L with many of the same symptoms as yours...mine overheats mostly when going uphill...but also get finicky...blows cold with heat on, then hot...red light flashes...stops flashing.

I've replace the Expansion Tank and Cap...a few hoses...put in a cooler (80 degree) thermostadt...all to no avail. Recently pumped air into the plug holes (cylnder at TDC) hold pressure an no bubble in the Expansion tank.

I've been told it could be the radiator or combustion gases slipping past the seals (but why would the air pressure test show this?)

Anyway...I'm having a test doen with a "Block Testing Kit" this week...dye that will tell if gases are in coolant. I'll let you know what I find out...please do the same.

Kevin
