i think the hose you are talking about is supposed to be connected to the cooling tin somewhere around the air filter housing. in your picture, there is a spark plug. from what i remember, if you run your hand from about where that spark plug is, down the side of the cooling tin, behind the alternator bracket; you should find a small "nipple" sticking out of the cooling tin. connect that hose to it. your brake booster hose is on the other side as you describe. this hose has nothing to do with that, its not a vacuum hose.
