Subject: Re: VW's Diesel vs. Gas

I bought a new Golf TDI in 2000 and I love it. The overall gas mileage over 50k miles is 46 with roof rack, and I am not a Sunday driver. I think it's a great car, and I wish I could go 550 miles in my Westy without refilling. Coasting down the highway in 5th gear at 2200 RPM @ 70mph. No need for tuning, because if you drive it between 2000-3000 RPM where the Turbo rules you can accelerate like if you had 200hp. You don't know you're driving a diesel, except when filling her up. Diesel is smelly, and diesel stations are sometimes a little hard to find. Next time I'd buy a Jetta Wagon for the extra space, which was not available in the US 2 years ago.
