his follow-up post...

I forgot something in my post last evening offering the SS replacement lines for the early Vanagons.

Prior to me swapping out the rusted out lines on my own vehicle, I did inquire at a couple of places to find out if in fact there would be any adverse affects on the cooling system, and / or the aluminum engine components.

The hose dealer told me that the stainless high pressure hydraulic lines that he was going to make them out of would have zero residual affect on the coolant or the aluminum. Well he just sells the stuff, so I went one step farther, and made a call to Caterpillar, and got ahold of their engineering / tech department and asked the same question.

I was told that only a cheap alloy stainless would cause a problem, but this type of line is not used in high pressure applications, therefore would not present any adverse affects on the cooling system or the aluminum engine of our vehicles.

And when I explained the where and how much of it was going to be used he blatantly stated that this wouldn't be a problem.

Stainless alloys will not leach into the coolant.

Rest assured if in fact this set up would create a problem I most certainly wouldn't have installed it into my own vehicle.

And the best part of this was it was simple and a permanent fix.
