One slight plus for airboxer drivers -- we get a little extra engine braking
from the cooling fan as the engine winds up.  I seem to recall it saps about
14 HP at high RPM (but my memory is none too good; someone out there must
know the correct figure).
Of course, it's also doing this when you're trying to go UP hills... :-)
