My first question is about the overheating light.
 .............. Never seen one.
What I want to know is if there is an actual temp. gauge or something
more reliable I could install? . Do these same temp gages work on the air
cooled engines?
 .................... Best bet, install Oil Temp and Oil Pressure, a
Cylinder Head Temp is nice but if the oil temp stays down so does the
CHT, in most cases.
All the other dash components are working fine?
 ................. Wiggle the light sockets or replace the little bulbs.
My mechanic told me to break it down and clean really well with fine grit
sandpaper.
 .................. Expensive part, clean the track that the carbon brush
runs on with a pencil eraser, lightly.
However, you can not open the door from the inside and there is no way of
even unlocking the door on the inside
................ You're just missing a little 1" long bolt thingy that
screws into the lock. Get a regular 1" bolt from ACE Hardware, I don't
know the mm size but its a standard, just take a few outside and try
them, buy the one you need. If you get an OEM it will still fall out.
Get a copy of Hayes Manual ($18.00) or Bentleys ($65.00). I just use the
Hayes but if you're new get the Bentleys and you can use it later as a
door stop or a cruise control on your gas pedal.
There is also a good resale for Bentleys once you become an expert.
