The usual problem is not the starter motor at all, but the solenoid shaft sticking. If so, all that's needed is to remove the starter & solenoid, separate the solenoid from the starter, and clean the shaft. I wrote a long and overly-detailed post on how to do it a few years back.

Shops find it more convenient to simply sell you a new $100+ starter + solenoid, but I prefer the 1-hour free alternative!
