This is pretty common on the baywindows. I've had this happen on 2 of the 4 I've owned. As the starters get tired they seem to react more easily to the heat. Consider making a heat shield for the starter as the early Chev's ended up doing for the same reason. My poor wife has had to bump start our Westies more than once because of this PITA. A new starter will cure it, but build a heat shield for the new starter too.
