Tom, Companies such as Momo make extension collars for their steering wheel adapters. They come in half inch increments. Unfortunately you may have some difficulty acquiring the base hub which from what I understand is no longer being manufactured. It's part number 8012. The ones from the A1/A2 & early Audi hubs part # 8010 can be made to fit w/ minor changes. Momo also makes an offset adapter. It puts the steering wheel upwards by about a half inch offcenter. Might be all you need. But then all these solutions require the use of an aftermarket steering wheel. I haven't tried early Porsche 924 wheels yet. They might fit as they fit other VW's. They have a wheel available which is about 6-8 inches extended from the column. Finally you can try to retrofit a telescoping wheel from an aftermarket source or some other production car. I am trying to use one from an A2 Golf with tilt steering as the splines are the same as a Vanagon. Just another one of my unfinished projects. BenT |
