Almost without a doubt, you have a bad head gasket. You will need to pull the head, and replace the head gasket. Reid

> Hi all, > > We have steam and coolent smell coming out of the tail pipe and the engine has begun to run rough. > > We were traveling from VA to NY on friday and about three hours from our destination one of the large radiator hoses popped off the plastic pipe underneath. We stopped immediately and put the hose back on by the side of the road and filled up the system with tap water from our sink. We then drove along (temp normal) for about two more hours and stopped for gas and dinner, topped up the expansion tank, everything seemed fine. I noticed that the exhaust seemed quite steamy when we got going again but it soon looked normal again. > > less than a mile from our destination the hose that connects the driver's side head to the plastis pipe over the expansion tank burst and we stopped immediately. We let it cool down for a few minutes, refilled with water, and drove the last 2-3 min with the temp gage reading just above the LED. As soon as we stopped, I jumped out and check the engine and it didn't seem hotter than normal. > > This morning, I replaced the burst hose and filled and bled the system and after a few minutes of running the exhaust became very steamy and smelled like coolent.
