Does the AFM do anything at idle? In other words, does the spring tension affect the idle mixture at all or is it strictly set by the mixture screw? I am trying to tune with the new HP Digijet ECU in my otherwise stock 1.9l Boston Bob engine. I have tightened the spring tension 4 notches in an attempt to regain some of the lost mpg. I put a Voltmeter on the O2 sensor and roughly set the mixture by the voltage. The idle mixture seems to run leaner with the O2 sensor disconnected. I would have guessed the other way around, hence my question about the AFM's role at idle speed. Maybe it moves a little at idle? The new ECU really makes a big difference. I would highly recommend it. Seat of pants feels like 10 hp, at least as good as a stock 2.1l.
