1987 2wd with 15" X 8" Porsche alloys. Stock Boge shocks. All new bushings. Firm but reasonably compliant with only two to three passengers. Anything more than that and it can get pitchy. Hit a big bump and you can really tell you have a revised suspension. On the other hand, it's a blast to drive around corners now. Have 91 2wd w/ Carat springs for comparison. Practically the same height. Felt slightly more comfortable with Boge shocks but not as good on corners. Installed cheap KYB shocks. It is now just as bumpy and no improvement on cornering ability.

Both examples are on stock anti sway bars. Also have Syncro and other Vanagons at my disposal for comparison. Nothing compares to stock for ride comfort as far as these mods are concerned. But the improved handling is worth it IMHO. Lots of oohs, ahhs due to the nice lowered looks too. Even from the no-van people. GF loves how much easier it is to get in and out of.
