Hi Folks,

I finally got my van running right.     I had been measuring the O2 voltage
to set the AFM bleed screw but I had not been getting it hot enough so I was
not setting it in the right area.
I read a few more archive entries and found that it has to be really hot and
tried again.

I had been adjusting the bleed screw to too rich ( 1/2 turn out from bottom)
and the sensor/ECU was compensating and leaning it out.  I then found a
position where it was too lean (4 1/2 turns out from bottom) and the O2
sensor/ECU made it richer.     I picked a position about half way in between
(the voltage reading dances about) and then tuned the throttle body screw
with a vacuum gauge and got a steady 17 inches.  It ended up being 2 1/2
turns out from the bottom.
Now it runs great ...no hesitation, O2 sensor plugged in.
My year model was the first with power steering ('84 Wolfsburg edition) and
also has a/c but has no relays to raise the idle speed.     The idle holds
reliably with the a/c on but not if I turn to full lock as well.   I guess I
can live with that.
