Earlier, I posted this:

"snip" When we bought our 96 Jetta, the dealer told us that if we locked it out, that it would need to be sent to the manufacture to have it unlocked. Maybe your's is different being an A2, and mine is an A3 Jetta. "snip"

And an alert list member informed me of this:

"snip" Hi Andrew- 93 radios lock up? Not so! It's only the Heidelberg 5 that locks up permanently after three tries. The 93-later Golf-Jetta, Etc ,radios only need to be left on for an hour and then you get three more coding attempts. I have a 96 Clarion VW radio and I have done this before. Maybe the dealer thought the newer radio was the same as the old, got them mixed up, or was new on the job, or wanted you to come in and buy a new radio, or all of the above. "snip"

So I went and got out my Bently to prove this member wrong, and low and behold I was wrong and they were right. I was assuming that the dealer knew what they were talking about, and I've never had any need to venture in to the radio section on the Bently.

I just wanted to apologize for the false info, and to thank this other list member for being alert (the world needs more lerts ;-) ).

Thanks, Andrew 1984 Westy "Speed Bump" 1996 VW Jetta Trek "Little Beep" (the wife's car) The Basket Bus http://www.creativegifts2go.com/vw.html
