When I was a real mechanic working on the cars instead of their trannys,
I routinely changed the bottom "O" ring by moving the cylinder as far out
as I dared to get at the groove to clean it out and put the new o ring
in. You have to be very careful not to pull the cylinder far enough out
to let a ring pop out, but there is just enough room as long as you are
careful. Of course this is much easier on a hoist with all the trick
tools. try at your own risk.
