I know someone who has the air-cooled vanagon trans with a 1.9 Diesel non-turbo. It runs very well-I drove it, and it's much better than the old diesel trans. I drove it in hilly conditions and it did very well. Cruises the freeway much better with lower rpm.

Hi everybody,

I have a 1982 westy diesel and my tranny need a rebuilt.

I want to put a 4 speed gas tranny by changing bell housing and output shaft. I want to know if it's driveable for a diesel Westfalia to run with a gas tranny, because you know, the gas tranny is not geared the same as a diesel tranny. Is the motor have enough power to run with lower gear?

thanks for your help
