I would not start the engine every week. It is better to just leave it. If you could have a trickle charger on the battery that would be better. (or bring the battery inside to where it can be charged every couple of months or so) Otherwise I think the cost of a battery is less than the wear you will cause on your engine from cold starting just to keep the battery charged. Keepig the engine oiled is not an issue for just a winter storage. You might change to fresh oil before storing it. There is also special "conservating" oil for storing diesel engines. Check a marine store if you can't find it elsewhere.
