I just spoke to my brother who told me his tale of the 1998 Ford "Windscar". They bought it used (1 year old) with 15,000 miles or so. It now has 92,000 miles and is leaking coolant and oil so bad that the dealer suggests replacing the engine (this is the V6) with a new one. Apparently their attitude is that this is about all you can expect out of that engine! New engine $2400. Installation $1600. On your way for another 90,000 miles. Oh yeah, then we can start on the crummy tranny too. Makes the 2.l Wasserboxer seem downright robust. I suggested he put in a TDI - probably should have suggested a subie conversion too. |
