Volkswagen considers anything built 01/SEP and on the next model year. So your 09/89 would be classified as a 1990. I have what I believe to be a 1990 Vanagon GL. The production date on the driver's side door sill says 09/89 I always figured this must mean it is a 90, but I heard that all 90 gl's should have fiberglas bumpers-mine has the chrome bumpers. I bought this car used from a dealer in 1999, and the owner's manual was missing. The title says 1990, as far as I know...Any thoughts?
