You did not say if your bad light is in the rear tail-light assembly or the rear side light, but: If I were you (IIWY), I'd take out the light fixture and check the connections to the light (for rust/corrosion and for 12 volts in the wires). This is a great place for rust and I'll bet that the connection (or the bulb seat) has rusted.
