I'd be a little suspect of that 3rd to 4th shift!

Subject: Tranny woes solved we think - update
Hi volks,
For those of you who were trying to help me problem solve the symptoms on
my
van (and those in Maine who were looking at it at Busses by the Buoy):
I took the van back to the guy who had rebuilt the tranny and he offered to
do the repairs for half price - my 12 month warranty was for the previous
owner and had expired by 3 months, so I figured that was fair. I was
losing
gear oil and tranny fluid and had oil flying over my engine compartment.
It
was slipping and sticking from 2nd to 3rd and 4th to 3rd. Evidently, one
of
the differential bearings slipped (I think he said slipped) and poked a
hole
into the seal so tranny fluid was getting into the differential and gear
oil
was leaking out. Also, the clutch plate in the tranny was cracked. So I
picked it up yesterday - the whole repair job cost me $450 at half price.
Does this sound resonable and fair to you guys? (remember this is
Massachusetts - everything is expensive here) Lets hope this has solved
the
problem! Seems to drive fine so far - I'll bring it back to him in a
couple
weeks to have him reinspect it for free and make sure its road worthy.
Peace,
Marla
