Dale, A few months ago I fixed the odometer from a Saab 900, a similar VDO device. The problem is how to replace the needle at the same angle on the shaft that it had originally. Before pulling the needle off, lift the end just enough to get it over the post that it normally rests against. The spring will then hold the needle in its relaxed resting position and you can mark this with a small scratch or pencil mark on the dial face. If and when you have completed reassembly of the odometer, press the needle back on the shaft at the same position and then lift it back over the post. Using this method I came out within 1/2 mph at 60 and 72 mph. I found this hint by searching the Saabnet forums.

Good luck, Larry A.
