Subject: Cutting out on acceleration
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

For you who have Jetta or Golf engines in your vanagons running Digifant 2 ,I beseech your advice.

It's been 5 years since I had the air flow meter cutting out or bucking syndrome. I replaced the AFM with a good used one, and added the VW AFM capacitor harness.I never had this problem again until now. Well, my Vanagon has been cutting out the last few days.

Symptoms show on acceleration at low rpm. And after about 2800 rpm disappear. You can't start out going uphill. On the level, you have to be very slow with the gas pedal. Sometimes it stalls-just like it did with the AFM problem 5 years ago.

Here's what I've so far with no improvements: swapped AFM's with others known to work . I have ruled out the AFM.

The fuel rail was swapped to the later A-3 type (head is 1.8) . The 93-later 2 liter pressure regulator is an improvement over the earlier 1.8 type, not the problem. One of the symptoms was dieseling.

I am going to check the fuel filter, which low pressure from a clogged filter could result in the low -rpm(low-vacuum) problem. The pressure regulator is operated by vacuum, so methinks that could explain how at higher vacuum /rpm the engine runs OK?

What do you thinks?

Robert
