I find that my fridge doesn't keep things as cold when it is using the battery, so I always use the propane. The only problem is that while driving, it might not stay lit, though this happens rarely, usually only when its very windy or I'm driving too fast. I don't know about other models, but my '87 has a safety valve that shuts off the gas if the burner goes out. That's why you have to hold that button in for a few seconds when you fire it up - it overrides this until the heat from the lit burner opens the safety. So anyway, the only risk of using propane is that your beer might get warm. Also, think about installing a second deep-cycle battery so you never drain your starting battery regardless of what your using power for.
