Hi gang;

Congratulate me...I am the proud new owner of my first VW. It is a silver '87 GL Wolfsburg Edition passenger Vanagon. It is in near perfect shape, with rebuilt power steering, completely new brakes (front and rear shoes, cylinders, drums, front rotors, pads) a new heater core, rebuilt AC, and they replaced both cylinder heads at 135,000mi (the van now is at 147K). Seems that they took it to the dealer and threw money at it whenever it squeaked.

The paint is shiny (it was garaged), there are only a few tiny dings and scratches, and Peter at the Volks Cafe told me he'd never seen one come in on a pre-buy check with so much already done/replaced.

What it needs: new belts, a fuel injection tuneup (it hesitates) and some coolant system work (there are some little leaks/seeps) all of which is being done now. Total estimate between 300-$500.

I got the van for $2,700. Can you tell I am happy?

This Sunday we will be loading the boys, our instruments, and our luggage and bikes into her and taking her for the shake-down road trip to my dad's place in Mendocino County. It is about a 6 hour drive, not counting stops.

So, I guess my question is, should I be watching for anything in particular? Or should I just relax and enjoy the drive? Love those arm rests. And the wing windows! I've always wanted a car with wing windows...

-Regards, Jessica, who will be buying a Bentely manual shortly.

'87 GL Wolfy (!!!)
