There is a small triangular shaped lever located just to the rear of the lever that you pulled up on to move the seat forward.

When the seat stops sliding forward, you need to push that triangular lever up while lifting the fore/aft adjustment lever and pulling forward on the seat.

Once the seat is all the way forward, you might need to twist it side to side in order to clear the tracks.

The levers could be on either side, since the seats are interchangeable, and the consciencious Vanagon owner rotates their seats to even out the wear (or simply just swaps them when the drivers seat wears out and forces their S.O. to sit on the worn out seat.)

Good luck,
