Run a "hot" jumper wire to the + side of the coil and then "arc" the starter. To do this, pull the single clip-on wire connector on the starter and attach your own clip w/wire. Then jump this wire to battery power. The closest one is right next to you on the starter. Should turn the engine over and fire it up. I have used this system to trouble shoot engine problems when you are by yourself (never for evil purposes) but I'm not positive the jumper wire to the coil will power all the systems (like the fuel pump, etc.). I usually have the key for this procedure, so I'm not 100% sure. I know it works on the earlier air-cooled VW's-whch I have much more experience with. If this doesn't work, you can also "manually" power up the fuel pump by pulling a relay in the engine compartment and running power to it. If you need to know how to do this, let me know. The simple answer is to buy an ignition switch. They are about $15. Remove the 2 screws that hold the lower cover over the steering column. Unplug the wiring connector from the installed ignition switch and plug it into the new one. Use a screwdriver to turn the new one. The steering will still be locked but everything else will work normally. "J.
