Yes, but get a '97 Golf stereo. It fits perfectly and will control a cd
changer!

Hey gang,
While everyone was talking about that original radio and its silly code, it
made me remember something....
That radio stinks!
I mean, you could buy the crappiest no-name stereo head unit today, and it
would rock the pants off of that OEM dinosaur. I remember having the code
thing happen to me right after I bought my Vanagon, and I called the guy
who
sold it to me, and asked him what the deal was. He said he could get me
the
code, but seriously, to just get a new stereo.
I bought an Alpine with cassette (this was around 1995 I guess) and
installed an additional Alpine 30 watt amp under the drivers seat to power
the 6 x 9's that I cut into the rear bench board. The Alpine delivered, I
believe 8 watts at the head...
Today, the plain vanilla stereo heads deliver 30 watts, and there are units
with 50 watts for a decent price.
I have a 40 watt Kenwood in there now, with CD (funny, as this head unit
has
more power than my Alpine amp under the seat!!) and I must say that I am
completely satisfied with the setup.
Unless you only want your sound system in the Vanagon so that you can
listen
to Rush Limbaugh... do yourself a favor and upgrade!! That OEM radio is 15
years old! (it probably eats tapes too)
Anyway... good luck with your radio quest.

the trash.
