I would keep the heater. I find that the rear heater in winter supplies pleanty of heat - more efficient because of proximity to the engine - and only need supplimental heat from the front. That is, with the rear heat running it doesn't take s full blast setting to keep the front warm. On the other hand, when I use only the front heater, I have to run it at a higher setting, and there always seems to be a cold draft that works its way forward. That draft disappears when the rear heater is on. I think having bothe heater on a little bit evens out the heat distribution inside a little better. Also, with the rear heater on, the defrosters seem to do their job a lot better. I drive a 88 GL so my situation may not fit yours exactly.
