another approach...
still having the main battery back in the engine compartment (hold-over from the diesel days) and a small 30 A/hr gel cell tucked in behind it (in front of RHS taillight) makes it easy to wire in a HD relay that isolates the starter/main battery from the electrical system (except for the big wire to starter) and allows the gel cell to power everything else when the key is not in the start position. (note run on sentence) Mind you, I don't have much in the way of power draws when camping, just the fluorescent light (infrequently) and the CD player.
