I'd consider following the instructions from your rebuilder. They are the ones that would have to replace the engine if it doesn't work out. Having said that, I personally always start out with 10/30 oil. Change the oil 3 times the first 3,000 miles. Then after go to 20/50 weight. Wait until at least 10,000 miles before using semi-synthetic at first. Don't go to full synthetic until 25,000 miles have passed or not at all. Sometimes it can take a long time to break in a new engine, like 30,000 miles plus until oil consumption goes to almost zero. Don't forget that the grade oil you use also depends on the climate you live in. That's why you should ask your rebuilder.
