Sounds like the pilot bearing that resides in the end of the crankshaft has 
siezed. $3.50 part. This happened to me two years ago. Drove my syncro from 
Farmington, NM to Leadville, CO sucessfully without use of the clutch. Since 
it all has to come apart, it makes sense to throw in a new clutch kit.
