Subject: Coolant Pipe Installation-84 Vanagon
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII

After a break from the Vanagon list for a few years, I resubscribed for a specific reason:

Installing the two coolant pipes running from the engine compartment to the radiator

I've had it done several times by my friendly local repair shop, but this time I'm doing it myself. I shelled out the $300 for new pipes from the dealer and went the extra mile to have them both ceramic coated by Jet-Hot. The old pipes are out, the rear of the Vanagon is lifted for clearance. The fuel tank is dropped and I have threaded one pipe through the hole in the frame up to the front.

Now, the second pipe...what am I missing? There must be someone here who as not only done this before, but knows the secret. There must be a way to twist and turn, or a proper order, to get the second pipe in without forcing it and scraping off the finish.

If you folks don't know, who would?

High and dry, -Jim Bryant
