It was until this year that you could get the code from the dealer. The new rule that you have to have the VIN number, means that a few radios I have are useless. Obviously it's not a theft prone item like it was 13 years ago, so maybe a electronics shop can unlock it for you without needed proof you are the original owner. I have a friend who bought four of these radios including two that were '95-'96 models. I hated to tell him the news-he bought them at Goodwill ,and doesn't have the code. Hi volks,

I called 2 local VW dealerships regarding getting my radio code to unlock my factory installed VW radio. Evidently, not only do you need your VIN number, but you have to pull the radio out and get the number that is printed on the side of the radio as well. Nothings ever easy, eh?
