Bob, I'd leave the heater.

My rear heater core failed last year and I drove it around for the summer with no heater (capped off the intake and outflow hoses) and picked up a new core on one of my trips to a large city. (new core was $55)

I really debated on whether or not to put one in, since I, too, don't carry passengers and camp alone (or with Cat, and he wears his little fur pantsuit outfit.) But now that it's in I'm so glad it's there. It's nice to be able to warm up the back of the rig without frying me at the front.

Why warm up the back when I'm in the front? Condensation/moisture buildup in the back of the van...and eventual rust. I live in a dry climate, but the windows can still get foggy inside in winter, and it's nice to be able to take the dew off the van and my gear.
