Chris,

FWIW in the golden state of Kalifunia, the definitions are a little bit different. Fog Lights cannot be on when high beams are on. Fog lights are of course not "driving" lights and have a beam pattern that when properly aimed does not illuminate other drivers mirrors or windshields.

Driving lights cannot be on when low beams are on as they are considered auxiliary high beams. In real fact they are considered off-road only if mounted as an accessory.

Have someone else drive your van as it is now and you drive their car to see the effect the lights are having in their current (pun intended) configuration. After you wail a 55gal drum of whoopass on your friend who is driving YOUR van you'll have suffered and enlightment regarding the outsiders view of your lights.

So unless you want some good ol' steelers fan to bring the iron curtain down on your head... Wire the driving lights to the high beam so they go out when low beams are on. You don't need 'em in traffic or town anyway.

Or...install 5.75 H4 Hella/cibie high low beams for the auxiliary lights. They dim just like the mains do if wired correctly.

T.A. Moore of lysergic acid fame had a CHP perform summary execution of his driving lights on the spot so to speak when he balked at having to disconnect them.

Say hi to Catherine Baker Knoll for me.
