A driving light should be adjusted for distance penetration (whether laterally - wide-angle or directly ahead - long-distance) and set to work with high beam, and should run through the dipswitch so that when you select low beam the drivinglights are cut, and come on again with high beam.

Some listees are getting confused with foglights, which are normally mounted below the bumper... many Japanese cars have these as standard, and here in NZ many users leave these on at night... even instead of headlights... blinding oncoming traffic (senselessly, this isn't illegal here!). These are set low to shine directly ahead (ie undipped) under fog blankets.

Dunno what lights you're getting there, but they SHOULD be normal H3 high-beams, just as an old Golf GTi would have in this position.

Mine have the following markings on the lens (from top to bottom):

TOP TF 23 SAE Y87
