Hello everyone,

I'm in the process of rebuilding my 1.9L engine out of an '85 GL.  I have
the engine out, but don't have the case open, yet.

I am using the Bentley manual and it shows several special VW tools.  Right
now I am interested in the piston pin removal tool (#3091), the cylinder
sleeve removal tool (#3092) and the distributor drive shaft tool (#VW 228B).
How does a person get a particular job done without these tools (especially
the piston pin tool)?  I contacted a list member who has a bunch of VW
tools, however he didn't have extra tools of the ones I needed or wanted.

I've done a search on the list and there was a reference to a home grown
piston pin removal tool but I never did find the instructions on how to make
one.  Maybe some of these tools really aren't needed (such as the cylinder
sleeve tool) I don't know.

In any information on how to get around without some special VW tool, or how
to make a tool that will suffice to get the job done will be appreciated.
