Yesterday I posted asking what T80/6 wire does on the ALH TDI ECU. Answer is tachometer.

Today I have been told by a fellow who installed a 2001 New Beetle TDI motor into his Rabbit PU that he had to install the NB instrument cluster and ignition switch and key under his dash as this stuff is needed to make it all fire up. I personally do not have the desire to use this kind of a setup in my Double Cab - cheesy! So I ask the question to the group. How does one eliminate the key transponder system on these newer engines? I can't see how the key really interfaces with anything. The 1999 - 2000 Jetta / Golf Bentley manual is void on any information about the anti-theft system. There are a few mystery wires left for me to decipher on the ECU the one that I have the questions about now is T80/45 with is simply listed as "K Wire" is this the anti-theft signal wire? If so, what signal is passed down the wire? From what the dealer told me the key communicates with the instrument cluster and the instrument cluster tells the ECU if it is OK to turn on or not. Seems to me I just have to see what is a yes and no signal and satisfy that condition. Is it is simple as ground for 'yes' and open for 'no'?

Thanks in advance!

David Marshall
